Census Extracts

 

View many transcriptions from various census's, (1841, 1851, 1871, 1891). We have also given you a full list of the Coventry Workhouse, Warwickshire 1891 Census. 

We have also made a table showing the dates that the census's were taken, and also giving you the population of England from 1841 to 1901.

I have also transcribed the 1841, 1871 & 1881 censuses for the village of Summerseat in Lancashire. These can be found in the Summerseat Section of our site

Summerseat

 

Due to the amount of information that I have now acquired concerning the village of Summerseat, which is a lovely place, and is about 10 miles to the North of Manchester, Lancashire, UK. I have decided to give it more space, and have produced this new website, dedicated to information about Summerseat.

This site is a branch from our main Ward Family Website.

Subjects include - About Summerseat, Rowland's Church, Mills of Summerseat, Full transcription of the 1841, 1871 & 1881 censuses for Summerseat, Great photo gallery, many photos of the headstones in   Rowland's cemetery, & More.

1800's Britain

This section of our site will give you an insight as to how Britain was in the 19th Century, the subjects include - Queen Victoria - Notable dates of the 1800's - Victorian London which includes a page on the Pearly Kings and Queens - The Penny Magazine - Children in the 1800's  - The Cotton Trade & Mill Workers - Crime - Tolpuddle - The Tolpuddle Martyrs - Victorian Servants, Plus Many Photo's. 

Also a section on Manchester & Salford in the 19th century, which covers - The Working People of Manchester, Workers Housing, Disease & Health issues in Victorian Manchester, plus a write up on Salford, Plus Photo's.

I have added an extra page to this section, where you can view a little history on Robert Owen, during his life, he organised infants schools. He secured the reduction of the hours of labour for women and children in factories.

Military

This is a new section that we have added to our site, it covers some great subjects, as we  give you the  history of - The Desert Rats (The 7th Armoured Division) plus photo's of the 1945 Victory parade in Berlin, R.E.M.E., The Battle of The Somme, The Boer War, and the Three Battles Of Ypres.

New April 2005- We have added two new pages to this section - The Second World War and also Sir Winston Churchill, we are sure that you will find these new additions interesting, there are also many photo's added.

A History of Diseases and Illnesses through the years in the UK

This page gives you a chart showing the history of Illnesses and Diseases in the UK, we cover from the year 1350 right through to 1950. Of course this may not detail the Full History, but we have added all those that we have researched.

 

  Meaning of Disease Terms

Here we have listed many Disease and Illness terms, together with the basic

interpretation, you may find these on your ancestors death certificates, and

not understand the meaning, we do hope that you find this page useful.

 

Our Photo Gallery of Headstones 

Here we have made up a photo gallery of headstones, as we have just started to take  photo's of headstones when we have visited some cemeteries looking for some of our relatives graves. A lot of these are our ancestors, but there are some that are not related to us, I do plan to expand this area of our site, and we will be adding more photo's over the coming months.

There are now 95 photos of the headstones in the old graveyard section at Rowland's, a must to visit if you have relations buried here.

Here is a Free site that will list Birth, Marriage & Death Certificates  that people have bought in error, I myself have done this in the past, so somebody suggested to me about how good it would be to have a site where people could list these certificates, together with contact details.
